16. Baking, a Swim, Art and the Green!

The day started with me relaxing on a couch-like daybed at the place I'm staying. I was up, I was ready, but the thing is so comfy. I heard live music from the open window, my laundry had dried overnight, and there was a delicious breakfast waiting for me up the street at Queen of Tarts. Now all I had to do was go, order and eat. And boy did I!

The breakfast I had was baked eggs with chorizo sausage. That bread was homemade, and it was delicious! I only had one piece, because it was super-filling. The baked eggs were smothered in cheese, and had beans, the chorizo, tomato, and some type of peppers, I think. It was very, very good. I skipped on the sweets, for now.

On that same street, I think it's called Cow's Lane, there was an art festival, where a couple of guys were painting piano's while people randomly played.

Then I walked along the river and saw a very, very fun event!

Apparently once a year there's a race down the river, and it just happened to be on during one of the days that I'm here, and happened to be walking by. It was hilarity meant to be. There had to be hundreds, and they swam what is apparently very dirty water. Anyhow, I watched it from a bridge (horse!);.., and had a great time.

Form there I went to an art gallery/store that I'd heard about, and absolutely had on my list. It's called White Lady Art. I thought that was hilarious to begin with when I heard of it, and then realized that it's even better when you meet the woman who curates/runs the place. She got green-blue hair, not from Ireland, I don't believe, and was the sweetest woman. I bought two pieces of bottle art by this female graffiti/street artist named Kathrina Rupit. I love them!

This is the woman who made the bottles. Too bad I won't be here for her show.

And then this necklace was just to great to pass up. It's made of wood with the design attached, clued on I think.

Interior of the shop.

After that it was time for some random wandering and taking pictures of things that I found fun.

There's a little design shop with work from artists and designer from Dublin, and I fell in love with this bag. It's a simple one, but the message is hilarious, "Hand-pulled screen prints by a big Irishman." Couldn't pass it up.

This guy was making these very interesting spray paint pieces, and I watched him make a few. At one point he sets them on fire, which I think is done to set the paint. Very, very interesting to watch. I have no clue how he does it.

Just beautiful type.

Not only is the Queen of Tarts right around the corner from the place I'm staying, but there's another bakery literally to the right of the front door to the building. They have these. It's a strawberry cupcake, which I ate in the private courtyard to the condo (picture at the end of the post).

Stereotypes are also sometimes facts!

The below wildpostings are all I can show you of an installation that I saw today. They don't allow photos to be taken because the show requires context, and it's a touchy subject, specifically in Ireland.

I will certainly not speak as an expert on the topic, but the installation is about the children and women affected by the cover ups in convents and other religious sectors. The movie Philomena was a real story of a woman from the same convent/place as some of the women and children spoken about in this installation. It starred Dame Judy Dench and Steve Coogan. It's definitely worth a watch. I think it on a lot of awards and brought some light to a situation that many people in Ireland and in general don't appear to want to discuss. This explained to me by the curator of the piece.

The installation was incredibly moving, especially the images (like the ones below) plastered on the wall next to the plaques that would have been on the graves of the women and children.

Anyhow, I had an hour long conversation with the wonderful woman who curated the installation, and it's an ongoing issue over here, with children still trying to locate their parents, and visa versa.

On to a more positive discussion, St. Stephen's Green! This is a lovely and huge park that I sat down in, very happily, to give my legs a rest. I didn't go through the whole park, as I was luckily carrying some bags from some fun purchases (all Dublin/UK based... of course!), but will be back tomorrow for the full tour.

And finally, here are some pictures of the place I'm staying! I really like it. It's pretty, clean, could literally not be in a better location, and... wait for it... it's quiet! Miracles happen!

Alright folks, after searching the town for wifi, I've clearly found it, but had to retry the upload of this post four times. Luckily it worked, while sitting at Wagamama, having some insanely delicious grilled pork bulgogi wraps and a brown rice dish of some description with chicken, prawn and cashews.

Nothing wrong with that!

Until tomorrow, should a second wifi search work out, and of not, Wagamama again it is!
