Anyhow, today I went to Buckingham Palace, took some pictures outside, but then actually decided to take a tour of the state rooms! The place is stunning. You're not allowed to take pictures inside, and they meant it, so I didn't try to steal some when no one was looking. It's the Queens house, someone is always looking. Anyhow, when you finish the walkabout, you get to the backyard, I guess it would be called, and they have a place where you can sit and have tea and cake. Of course they do. I had a relatively delicious mille-feuille, and I think I may have pronounced it properly when I ordered it (Paris practice you know).
(The flag flying means the Queen was home! I was in the Queens house when she was home!)
The last shot is of the patio right at the back of the Palace. I had snacks on the back porch of the Palace, you guys!
Then I walked about a bit, and saw Westminster Abbey (just outside), as well as a very cool pop-up food truck situation. I don't know how to describe it any better than that. I don't have picture of the ice cream I got, because I just wanted to eat it, but it was malted caramel cookies and cream. Yup. If I could marry ice cream, there would be a picture of me with a ring on my finger right after this sentence.
(Pretty sure the lady in purple in this last pictures is staring directly at me, as though I had screamed some obscenity at her before taking this picture. Not true. She's just unpleasant.)
From there I did some walking about. I don't know why my feet and legs are allowing this to happen day after day, but boy am I grateful that they are.
I went to a place called Fortnum & Mason, which I'm told is where the Queen does her groceries. I mean, clearly not literally, she's the Queen, but you know what I mean. They essentially have an absolutely deluge of tea, as well as cookies and other super-fun bits and pieces. I bought some cookies in beautiful tins. They are going to be a mother to ship home, but I'm already over it. They're too beautiful to pass up, and what with my obsession with tins, it needed to happen.
At that point, I was lucky enough to spend the evening with two lovely people, one of whom I've known for a while, and the other I just met tonight. They took me to a place called Burger & Lobster. Well, I mean, essentially there is no menu. There are three items, each £20:
1. Burger
2. Whole lobster
3. Lobster Roll
Who the hell is ordering the burger, I have no idea. I ate a lobster. It came with fries and salad, and while those were also good, the lobster was delicious! Painfully!
(Is it me or does that swipey lady look like a ghost!?)
Yeah, you read that last picture right! There was a 13lb 6oz lobster for £234!
We did not order that.
And that was that. Another great day, another one to try and top tomorrow. It will start with a delicious sandwich from Pret a Manger (sorry Lynn!), and then a boat tour down the Thames with a friend I used to work with in Bermuda. From there, wherever the world takes me... though sadly the world will take me to laundry at some point tomorrow.
Happy weekend!
